How to Calculate Your Life Path Number
Your Life Path Number is calculated using only simple math addition, with 2 additional rules:
- Group the numbers of your birthday together before adding, and
- Do not reduce the Master Numbers of 11 or 22 to single digits until the final calculation.
Sound Simple? It is!
Part 1: Grouping The Numbers Together
There are 2 ways to group the numbers, the correct way, and the incorrect way.
Let’s point out the incorrect way first since we see this confusing people. The incorrect way is to 'just add everything together'.
First let’s look at how people most often incorrectly calculate life path numbers. Why are we showing the incorrect way first? It's easier to learn what not to do followed by what to do.
The Incorrect Way
Birth Date: May 4, 1977
May = 5
4 = 4
1977 = 1977
(5 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 7) = 33
At which point people proclaim, 'I'm a Master Number 33!'
But this is incorrect.
The Correct Way
The correct way to calculate the Life Path Number is to group the Month, Day, and Year, and add them individually, reduce to a single number for each, then reduce them to a single number.
For example:
Birth Date: May 4, 1977
May = 5
4 = 4
1977 = (1 + 9 + 7 + 7) = 24 = (2 + 4) = 6
Then add the totals from each above group
(5 + 4 + 6) = 15 = (1 + 5) = 6
Correct: Life Path 6
Note that the year in the above calculation is reduced to a single number before it is added to the other numbers from the Month and Day.
In some situations the final Life Path number will come out the same when done correctly and incorrectly, this is why it is important to do it the correct way all the time.
Here’s another example using 2 digit Month and Day:
Birth Date: December 21, 1954
December = 12 = (1 + 2) = 3
21 = (2 + 1) = 3
1954 = (1 + 9 + 5 + 4) = 19 = (1 + 9) = 10 = (1 + 0) = 1
(3 + 3 + 1) = 7
Correct: Life Path 7
Part 2: Do Not Reduce Master Numbers 11 or 22
Next lets look at the second rule. Do not reduce the Numbers 11 or 22 (1 + 1 = 2 or 2 + 2 = 4) if they show up in the groups during the calculation, until the final calculation.
The numbers 11 and 22 are special Master Numbers in Numerology and have additional properties and meanings.
For example:
Birth Date: July 29, 1974
July = 7
29 = (2 + 9) = 11 (Do Not Reduce)
1974 = (1 + 9 + 7 + 4) = 21 = (2 + 1) = 3
(7 + 11 + 3) = 21 = (2 + 1) = 3
Correct: Life Path 3
Here's one more Master Number situation for clarity
Numerology 7
Birth Date: November 29, 1975
November = 11 (Do Not Reduce)
29 = (2 + 9) = 11 (Do Not Reduce)
1975 = (1 + 9 + 7 + 5) = 22 (Do Not Reduce)
(11 + 11 + 22) = 44 = (4 + 4) = 8
Correct: Life Path 8
Other Life Path Calculation Questions:
Question: In my country we format the date differently:
- Day/Month/Year
- or Year/Month/Day
Does it matter which order I add them in?
Answer: As long as you are grouping the Month, Day, and Year, the numbers will always come out the same.
Question: Am I an 11 or a 2?
Or: Am I a 22 or a 4?
Or: Am I a 33 or a 6?
Answer: If calculated properly and you come out with a Master Number 11, 22, or 33 you are actually both. Your Life Path will mainly reflect the Master Number, but you may also have some of the traits of the secondary reduced number. A Life Path 11 may have some traits of a 2, but not all. This is why on reports you may see it written as 11/2 or 29/2 to indicate the secondary traits.
